Welcome to Connected Conversations! A space for thoughtful discussions about the horse-human relationship.
I’m Rosie, I help owners and equine professionals build calm, confident partnerships based on understanding. This blog is where I’ll share insights, stories, and practical tools to help you see your horse (and yourself) in a different light.
Why “Connection” Matters More Than Control
When I first started teaching, I noticed that the main flow throughout 95% of clients was that most problems they were having with their horses weren’t really about training at all. They were about communication & understanding.
The horses weren’t “difficult.” They were trying to communicate - but often, their humans weren’t sure how to listen. And it’s no wonder! We’re often taught to 'fix' behaviour rather than to explore what’s behind it, especially in more traditional settings where most of us started our horsey journeys. Let's be real, as kids we have all been told to 'give it a smack' in a group lesson on our favourite riding school pony, and had to battle our subconscious because the instructor surely knows best.
When we take a step back, shift our mindset, and start to view each situation from the horse’s perspective, everything changes. The tension fades. Communication becomes clearer. Progress feels easier - and both horse and human start to relax. This is what's important, and is exactly what we need to be seeing more of in the horsey world. We know better. We have the studies that prove it. We have the results of thousands of horse people who have changed their approach. And the best part is - it's in all of us already - you don't need a qualification in equine science, you don't need to spend thousands on different training methods, you don't need a new horse. You just need to step back, slow down, and listen.
That’s what connection really is. It’s not mystical or unachievable; it’s simply learning to notice more, react less, and work with your horse instead of against them.
